Mothers of crime victims such as Simphiwe Mokhahlu, Brett Goldin, baby Jordan Leigh Norton, Mikayla Rossouw and Steven Siebert continue their lives with the knowledge that crime should be prevented and combated with all means available to the state and those responsible for our safety and security. They continue with the knowledge that every individual has to be involved to make a difference in our crime ridden society.
Crime as a phenomenon should be tackled at all levels: the individual, the perpetrator, the crime producing circumstances, law enforcement and the environment.
Once again South Africa pauses to celebrate its women. NICRO joins in with the citizens of South Africa in saluting our women, young and old, for all the accomplishments and achievements they attain in their daily lives and over the course of their lifetime.
Women are the core of any society. They carry the genesis of procreation, they nurture the young, they impart the morals and values, they demonstrate the lifestyles, they build the character, they teach life skills, they partner their spouses, they earn the income, they manage the homes, they help build the economy, in short, they provide the future of the society.
Alas, they also bear the impact of much of the crime of society: not only as direct victims of rape, sexual assault, violence, murder, and other crimes but also as the mothers and partners of male perpetrators. In this latter case they are the silent and invisible victims, suffering the ignominy and stigma of the violent deeds of their sons, daughters and partners. Often coming in for a fair share of abuse themselves, and experiencing guilt and shame, these women require support and understanding in their battles to overcome this adversity.
Crime is a cycle and it has to be broken at the first link: the troubled youth that gets involved in petty crime and delinquency. Stop crime before it happens. Stop your child!
NICRO, the National Institute for Crime prevention and the Reintegration of Offenders pioneered and implements therapeutic programmes which aims at changing offending behaviour and equipping youth to say NO to crime.
Women deserve to have responsible children with integrity who contribute to a safe society.
Women are the caregivers and educators of the future South African generation.
Women productively stimulate the minds of their children.
Women set the example for our future leaders.
Women teach your children well
Women stand up for your children
Women stand up to your children
Women must fight moral decay
Women can help make SA safe
Women deserve to live in a secure South Africa.
Women need to break the cycle of crime!
