Economic Opportunities Programme - NICRO Limpopo's Vision for EOP clients

Our dream is to take the project to the level where it becomes familiar and acceptable to our clients. We believe in a holistic approach, involving organisational projects and also governmental and community structures outside the organisation. The aim is to see EOP making differences to the lives of its beneficiaries.

NICRO Limpopo held its first ever Business Awards Function in October 2001. The event successfully took place at Oscar Mpetha Stadium, University of the North. Dignataries from the Departments of Trade and Industry, Correctional Services, Education, Culture & Sports and Culture as well as contesting entrepreneurs attended the prize giving ceremony. Benny’s Brick and Tyres emerged as victors to seize the first prize.

Young offenders in the Journey Programme

The Journey Programme shows the way and motivate and make the young offenders aware of their responsibilities and to appreciate their "newness" after they've completed their journey.

NICRO was given the opportunity to address truck drivers on the Domestic Violence Act and HIV/AIDS in Musina. This was a momentous occassion for NICRO Limpopo to address an audience with people like The Deputy President, Mr Jacob Zuma; Minister for Health, Mrs Manto Tshabalala Msimang and The Premier of Limpopo, Mr Ngoaka Ramathlohodi present.

NICRO NORTHERN CAPE

The past year was a challenging one for NICRO Northern Cape. A number of staff changes, specifically in the Kimberley office, had an effect on service delivery but thanks to the staff’s resolve and commitment we concluded the year having accomplished much.

The vastness of the Northern Cape remains challenging for any organisation rendering social services in the province.
It calls for service providers to be creative and innovative.
It also necessitates the establishment of strategic partnerships with the government and the business sector to ensure that services are taken to remote rural areas.

During the year under review NICRO Northern Cape initiated a number of successful partnerships. Our Offender Reintegration Programme and the Department of Safety and Liaison’s “Say No To Stolen Goods” project jointly staged a very successful rally in Nababeep, Namaqualand. Connie Seoposengwe, (MEC) for Safety and Liaison, was the guest speaker.

The partnership between NICRO, ABSA, RDP, as well as the communities of Florianville, Colville and Galeshewe resulted in the establishment of the Lesedi Furniture Manufacturing project. The purpose of this project is to manufacture furniture for low cost housing.

Okiep Bricks

John Tuck started his business, making bricks, at home in his backyard. He sold the bricks to local building contractors. He approached NICRO and received SIYB Training and was linked with a financial institution to apply for a loan to buy equipment. He now delivers bricks to Nababeep, Concordia and Springbok.

“The NICRO programme taught me that crime does not pay. I must take responsibility of my own life and actions, to become self sustainable and help my fellow brothers and sisters.”
John Tuck - Okiep
