I am 33 years old, male and I live in —-. I was arrested for drunken driving. I received counselling and was taught lifeskills.
I learnt about how to realise and identify relapse drifts. I learnt about time management and how to schedule daily activities so as to prevent relapse triggers.
I have done a complete lifestyle change. I think about things differently now. I am addicted to healthy living now. My relationships are progressively improving, some more quickly than others. I have learnt to resolve conflicts in my life more responsibly and with patience.
I don’t use drugs or alcohol anymore. I am learning music and I am starting a small business.
I am very thankful to the magistrate who sentenced me to NICRO because I have been given another opportunity in life so that I can start anew and rebuild my life again.
I would like to thank her for having insight into my situation. If it was not for her good judgement of legal matters and social shortcomings, today I would not be writing these things.
I would like to say that not everyone is a criminal because of their reckless behaviour. Sometimes there are real underlying and unresolved psychological issues that drive a person to commit a break the law, unawares that they need help, or are suffering from a psychological disorder. So NICRO is a very excellent vehicle and platform to address these issues.
Change comes from within. You can only change when you truly desire to change. And lastly, life is a journey. There will always be ups and downs as you travel along. Patience is needed together with responsible actions.
I want to run my own business.
I send my deepest apologies. If I knew what I know now I would never ever have opened my life to drugs or alcohol. Alcohol almost destroyed my life. Then I came to NICRO. I did not know what to except. After attending NICRO sessions, I feel extremely motivated and excited about living life again.
NICRO has chosen to allow blogs written by offenders to be posted on its website in order to give those who are normally silenced in society an opportunity to express themselves.
The contents of the blogs, the opinions expressed and the points made in the blogs are not those of NICRO and do not represent any official NICRO position. Furthermore, NICRO does not assume any responsibility or liability for opinions or statements made in the offender blogs. The blogs are edited simply for grammar and typing errors. On occasion names of people have been removed.
