Safety Ambassadors
The goal of Safety Ambassadors is to reduce the risk and increase the resilience of school-going youth (15 – 18 years), thus reducing the opportunities for offending and victimization. Delivered at selected schools, Safety Ambassadors works by selecting and orientating Safety Ambassadors at each school.
The chosen Safety Ambassadors are put through lifeskills interventions as well as workshops on how to implement school-based projects. Over the next three year period, the Safety Ambassadors are supported to take charge of their environment, include other youth and work with the local community in addressing crime-related issues. NICRO plays the role of a facilitator in the process, while the Safety Ambassadors are the agents of change. The ultimate goals of Safety Ambassadors is to promote restorative justice, gender-based violence awareness and community engagement through schools.
Community Engagement
NICRO conducts community engagement through schools in the form of short workshops or presentations. Upon invitation by a school, the social worker will talk to the pupils about crime, violence, lifeskills and high risk behaviour. Parents can also be included in these events.
