Encouraging an Entrepreneurial Spirit

The Economic Opportunities Project (EOP)

The Economic Opportunities Project (EOP) assists those who want to start or improve their own small businesses by providing the necessary skills training and support services to ensure that their business ventures are sustainable. This non-financial support programme creates awareness of viable business opportunities that exist in the informal sector, and includes entrepreneurial skills training workshops, the establishment of business support groups and access to learning exchanges.

Within four months of having completed a Start and Improve Your Business training programme and participating in the business mentoring programme, 65% of NICRO clients start their businesses. Former offenders, families of offenders and victims of crime (especially women in abusive relationships who need to become financially independent to escape the violence) are our primary clients, although other unemployed people also make use of our services to start their own or improve micro businesses.

The Economic Opportunities Project

Do You Need Help?

  • Are you ready for a new opportunity?
  • Have you tried to get a job, but can't find one?
  • Are you tired of handouts?
  • Are you ready to put your shoulder to the wheel and earn a living?
  • Do you want to learn the skills to earn your own income ?

The Economic Opportunities Project does not offer quick fix solutions but helps you to turn your business ideas into success stories. A particular focus of the project is assisting those people who have had difficulty making a living in the past. In fact, many of the people who participate in the Economic Opportunities Project are former offenders, family members of offenders, victims of crime (particularly abused women) and young people who have completed the NICRO Diversion Programme. EOP offers you the skills you need to become an entrepreneur and achieve self-sufficiency.

We know your future can be different from your past. Your success starts here!

NICRO offers:

1. Business Skills Training

NICRO invites you to play the business game in a workshop as a practical way of learning the secrets of business success. The Business Game enables you to experience what it takes to run your own business and to prepare for the unexpected - both the challenges and the successes. It will help you to decide if you want to start and manage your own business.

2. Start Your Own Business Programme

Whether you have a concrete business idea or not, the Start Your Own Business Programme introduces the steps necessary to start a small business. It enables you to assess your potential, analyse business ideas and complete a business plan to start a viable small business.

3. Improve Your Business Programme

The Economic Opportunities Project

The Improve Your Business training programme offers those entrepreneurs already running their own businesses the chance to improve them. The course offers training on various business management practices including buying, stock control, marketing, record keeping and business planning.

4. Business Counselling Services

This service offers emerging and existing entrepreneurs who have completed a NICRO training programme ongoing advice and business support to develop and grow their business.

5. Business Finance - a Micro Loan

NICRO offers information about loan institutions and assists where necessary with applications to access finance to start a business.

6. Business Linkage

Once your business is up and running, you might consider taking on more challenges. We link local entrepreneurs to successful businesses, government, financial institutions and other small business service providers for further development opportunities. If you request help, we will link you to the right people.
