The design and finalisation of a number of new programmes with a strong developmental focus including programmes to address
parenting skills, drug abuse prevention, family functioning and preservation, violent and angry youth and the acquisition of comprehensive
social life skills, as well as the introduction of a specialised programme for young sexual offenders
As a member of the Standards Generating Body for Probation Work, NICRO actively participated in and contributed significantly towards
the development of two SAQA qualifications in the probation work field
In October 2005, NICRO hosted a six-member delegation comprising representatives from Malawi’s Departments of Justice, Law
Enforcement and Social Services. During the four-day stopover the delegation visited several diversion programmes and a juvenile court
in order to become acquainted with the practicalities of the implementation of iversion interventions. This collaboration resulted in
an invitation for NICRO to introduce restorative justice and diversion to Malawi. A working agreement, which will include a capacity
building component, commenced with immediate effect and resulted in NICRO visiting Malawi in March 2006
