VEP Social Worker

The Social Worker provides social work services to individuals in conflict with the law, which promote the protection, wellbeing, rehabilitation, and best management of these individuals in the criminal justice system. The Social Worker will work toward this goal through the delivery of a range of services and interventions designed to meet desired rehabilitative (behavioural change), criminal justice outcomes and crime prevention in the communities. The social worker provides a critical connection between the criminal justice system and social services.
Minimum requirements
- BA or B. Social Science Degree in Social Work
- Current registration with the SACSSP
- Valid driver’s licence mandatory
- Driving school competency report
- Comfortable to drive around Gauteng
- Must be bi-lingual, English and Afrikaans speaking
- An interest and passion to work with adult and/ or young offenders within the Criminal Justice System
- Understanding of Restorative Justice processes
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Must have good administrative
- Exceptional report-writing skills
- Must be computer literate
- Interest and passion with working in the VEP Sector
- Any VEP work related experience will be an advantage

Field Researcher
NICRO wishes to secure the fixed term services of a researcher for its KwaMashu, KZN site. NICRO is conducting qualitative research in KwaMashu. The contract will last for 4 weeks in June – July 2022. Remuneration is a fixed sum for the completed work package. Transport and telecommunications are not reimbursed. The researcher has access to the NICRO office for internet, printing, telecommunications and other work purposes.
The payments will be made as follows:
- 25% upon signature of the contract
- 25% upon completion of the required number of surveys
- 50% once the data has been captured and put through quality control, and it is clear that no further surveys are required for the research project
The duties of the researcher include:
- Conducting 53 interviews with selected interviewees in KwaMashu using the interview survey tool. The survey tool is developed by NICRO. All interviews will be conducted in person.
- Capturing the data from the 53 interviews into the data capturing tool online
- Following all quality control instructions provided by NICRO
- Reporting any issues they experience in the field to NICRO within 24 hours
The successful incumbent must have the following:
- Fluent in written and spoken English and IsiXhosa
- 5 years qualitative field research experience
- Be comfortable driving to and from KwaMashu
- Own reliable transport
- Be comfortable with interviewing people at schools and other community structures
